Patriots insider reveals Bill Belichick will leave New England at the end of the season

The New England Patriots are reportedly finally ready to move on from Bill Belichick.

According to NBC Sports Boston, the Patriots have decided to part ways from the second-winningest head coach in NFL history at the end of the season.

The bombshell decision was allegedly made after the 10—6 loss to the Colts in Germany on November 12.

“When they came out of Germany, conversations I had that week made it very clear that a decision was made. They were going to play out the string, and at the end of the year there would be a parting of the ways, for a variety of reasons,” the report said.

It means the six-time Super Bowl winning coach only has four games left in New England - against the Chiefs, Broncos, Bills, and Jets.

Belichick's time with the Patriots coming to and end will mark the end of a remarkable era.

The 71-year-old has been at the helm for 23 years, a run that saw him lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy six times with star quarterback Tom Brady.

However, since Brady departed the franchise in 2019, Belichick's effectiveness has slowly waned.

The team has been to the playoffs just once since Brady left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, falling in the wild-card round in the 2021 season.

They have also failed to adequately replace Brady - which, granted, is no easy feat - with QBs Bailey Zappe and Mac Jones struggling to have a significant impact.

2021 was the only season since Brady that the team has posted a winning record, and this year Belichick is barrelling towards his worst ever season.

The Pats have already been eliminated from playoff contention, and have had his worst ever start to a season.

They are rock bottom in the AFC East with a 3-10 record and have endured a number of heavy loss this season - most notably a 38-3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and a 34-0 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

The silver lining for owner Robert Kraft is that the Patriots are currently slated to get the No.2 pick in next year's NFL Draft. A savvy selection there would go some way to rebuilding the once great dynasty.

However, per the latest news, it seems Belichick won't be the one to oversee the rebuild.
