ANTONIA Kidman’s ex-husband Angus Hawley has died in New York while on a business trip.
In a statement released on behalf of Hawley’s family, brother Phillip said: “We confirm that Angus Hawley has suddenly and very unexpectedly died of a suspected heart attack whilst in New York attending a conference.
“There are no further details at this time as it only occurred last night, our time. The family request the media please respect their privacy at this very sad time.”
Friends and family are said to be devastated by the news, the sporty and healthy father-of-four having kept a low profile since his highly publicised split from Antonia seven years ago.
News.com.au understands Hawley went to dinner with a friend in New York and suffered a cardiac arrest. He passed away in the ambulance on the way to hospital.
Current wife Prue Fisher’s family drove from Orange in the NSW central west to Sydney to support her last night. She was supposed to join him in New York in a couple of days.
The 46-year-old former Scots College student was the business development manager at Valor Private Wealth.
He counted names like Merivale boss Justin Hemmes as a great friend who, upon learning of Hawley’s death, paid tribute to “a man amongst men”.
“I first met Angus when I was four. He was my next door neighbour but quickly became a best friend, one I was fortunate enough to have by my side ever since. The most caring, thoughtful and loving man. I’m going to miss his wit, charm, remarkable sense of humour and his unwavering love and support,” The Daily Telegraph reports.
“A true friend in every way, a man amongst men. The most loving father to his four wonderful children and adoring wife. His family was his treasure. His kids were his life. He would tell me every other day how much he loved his kids and how fortunate he was in life to be blessed with them. I loved him so much. I’ve lost something so very special in my life that cannot be replaced. I’m going to miss you so much Ang.”
Hawley, who worked with sports marketing giant IMG for ten years, also forged a great friendship with Tom Cruise in the late 90s, who was married to Nicole Kidman at the time.
After the birth of his fourth child Sybella with Ms Kidman in March in 2007, Hawley checked into a Sydney clinic to combat a drug addiction following a lengthy struggle with depression and anxiety.
“I was depressed, out of control and full of self-loathing, and I resorted to drugs to get through it,” he told Woman’s Day magazine in 2009.
“I wasn’t in a happy place and it was an appalling thing, but I was sick, and at least I was big enough to do something about it,” he added.
Hawley went on to marry Prue Fisher at Palm Beach in 2011, who “helped piece his life back together” and who he met when she was once interviewed by his former wife for a babysitting position with the family.
The small and intimate wedding in a private home on the Sydney northern beaches peninsula was attended by close friends and family including his four children, teenagers Lucia and Hamish plus James and Sybella.
Meanwhile, Ms Kidman married Singapore-based businessman Craig Marran in 2010 and went on to have two children, Nicholas, three, and Alexander.
The Kidman family, who lost the family patriarch, Dr Antony Kidman last year on a trip to Singapore, will again be mourning, this time for a life lost too young.
